A handsome 15.3hh QTIS-eligible colt, PROVANCE is an up-and-coming 3-year-old by Star Witness out of the 3-time winning dam, Prevalent. Recently trained by the David Vandyke stable, he has a career record of 10 starts with 2 wins and 2 second placings. He showed ability from the start as a 2-year-old, making a long wide run on debut at Doomben and running some of the best sectionals of the meeting. He has been competitive at both Metropolitan and Provincial levels throughout his second preparation, which began with a 6-length defeat behind the ultra-talented GIVE ME SPACE. He broke his maiden at his next start in spectacular fashion on the Sunshine Coast over 1200m. Arguably one of his better runs was a 2.5-length defeat behind the promising sprinter ABOUT TO EXPLODE, who went on to defeat FUKUBANA and RED DEFCON at the metropolitan level. PROVANCE then won a Class 2 at Ipswich over 1200m in a very high-rating race, and PINK CASHMERE franked that form subsequently two starts later. The form around him continued to stand up throughout his most recent preparation.
We will be teaming up with the Sunshine Coast’s premier trainer, Stuart Kendrick, and after a gelding operation and a break in the paddock, we are expecting plenty of improvement in his next preparation. With eligibility for QTIS bonuses, this seemed a no-brainer at the price for a metropolitan-grade horse with plenty of upside.
